Pair of large Sèvres style porcelain and green onyx pedestals
Style of Sèvres (French, founded 1738)
£75,000
Of truly exceptional quality and beauty, these wonderful porcelain and green onyx vases superbly demonstration the decorative majesty of the Sèvres style.
These magnificent pieces are a pair of large Sèvres-style porcelain, ormolu, and green onyx pedestals or stands, decorated with mythological scenes of putti, and beautifully emblazzoned with a rich cobalt blue ground and intricate gilding.
Mounted on square green onyx bases and small square bronze feet, they are similarly surmounted by slim, perfectly square onyx surfaces with which to mount the vases, sculptures, or other decorative pieces of one's choice.
The main bodies are executed in ormolu mounted Sèvres style porcelain, with wide gadrooned bases, column like cylindrical pieces in porcelain which are painted with scenes of putti cavorting in ethereal, idyllic landscapes, and delineated throughout with various egg-and-dart and reed friezes, framed on either side by the onyx mounts.
Superbly executed, meticulously painted, and applied with immaculate gilding, they represent some of the finest antique pieces designed in the manner of the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, and as such some of the most desirable of all nineteenth century antique decorative pieces.
