Pair of Louis XVI style ormolu mounted mahogany desserte consoles
£35,000
This superb pair of desserte consoles is designed in the restrained Louis XVI style and wrought from the finest of materials, including mahogany, ormolu, and veined white marble.
Each mahogany console stands on four tapered mahogany legs, each leg terminating in an ormolu sabot. The body of each console features a lower shelf with curved ends bounded by a pierced ormolu gallery. The upper tier of each console is raised above the lower by a backboard and four fluted mahogany columns. The upper tier of each contains three frieze drawers—one large to the centre and two smaller rotating drawers to each curved side, each of which is fitted with a spring mechanism. Each cabinet is surmounted by a veined white marble top, the top bordered by a pierced ormolu gallery. The mahogany throughout is set with superbly cast ormolu mounts, including the beaded ring handles on each drawer, the central escutcheon, and moulded beading throughout.
