This beautiful pair of ormolu wall lights demonstrates Neoclassicism at its best, their lyre-shaped bodies richly adorned with acanthus leaves and other classical forms.
This pair of wall lights is crafted from ormolu, or gilt bronze, in the ornate Louis XVI style. Each light features a lyre-form body, replete with five mock strings and finished throughout with delicate foliate detailing. The bottom of each lamp includes a drop finial composed of a pinecone and finely wrought grasping acanthus leaves, while the top of each is finished with a wonderful trompe l’oeil tied-ribbon crown, from which the lyre body is apparently suspended. Each light supports five candle branches—the branches springing from the base of the lyre—with each S-scroll branch moulded with acanthus leaves and other classicising foliate forms.
