The two vases date from the early 20th Century, with the lapis lazuli veneer being a later addition. The vases feature large, bulbous bodies which are mounted with twin ormolu handles of acanthus-leaf form leading to scrolls. The handles are joined by beaded ropes and a bow. Each vase features further ormolu mounts, including ormolu banding around the neck, stem and base. The covers of the vases are surmounted by intricate, floral finials in ormolu and the vases stand upon square-form bases with four ormolu bun feet.
The vases embody the refined, sumptuous spirit of French Neoclassical design (also known as Louis XVI style) and would make for truly stunning ornaments for a mantelpiece or console table.
