Description

Of rectangular form with ebony, ebonised wood, inlaid pewter, brass and tinted blue horn mounted with fine quality ormolu mounts, elaborately decorated with geometric designs, flanked on the sides with large ormolu acanthus scrolls, on arched bases.

After the model by André-Charles Boulle. This important model was engraved and published by Mariette not long after 1707. From the model developed in 1700 by Boulle, many other copies were made by important furniture makers of all periods. Various examples of these models are in important collections including a pair in The Royal Collection, on view in the Grand Reception Room, Windsor Castle (Royal Collection number RCIN 20559).
