Description

This beautiful pair of Moorish style stools is crafted from hardwood, which has been intricately carved and inlaid with mother of pearl, ebony, and bone; each stool is surmounted by a cushioned and embroidered seat.

The warm reddish-brown hardwood of the frames of the stools is wrought in a Moorish style. Each of the four side panels of each stool contains sections of pierced latticework and smaller panels displaying geometrical inlays comprised of tesserae of mother of pearl, ebony, hardwood, and bone. The sides of each leg, and of the seat rail, demonstrate a similar inlaid pattern, composed from the same set of materials. The side panels of the stools have been shaped to resemble trefoil arches, the distinctive arch present in much Moorish architecture.

The seat of each stool is upholstered, the upholstery skilfully embroidered. This embroidery represents flowers and leaves, in shades of red, yellow, and green, arranged in an intricate and beautiful composition.
