This magnificent pair of very large ormolu-mounted vases have been executed out of porcelain in the style of the renowned Sèvres porcelain manufactory.
The top of each vase consists of a cover surmounted with pinecone finials. The neck and base mounts are coloured in the deep blue ground and adorned with intricately painted gilt decoration. Very fine ormolu mounts ornately decorate the lip, foot, and base of each piece.
The vases include twin gilt bronze handles. Superbly cast, they depict floral bouquets, as well as acanthus leaves, and terminate with a motif of a flambeau torch and a quiver of arrows wrapped together by a flowing ribbon.
The bodies of both vases depict Rococo-style, Watteauesque scenes. Two central female figures, dressed in flowing and see-through dress are surrounded by winged putti and foliage. In the first vase, the female is sitting in a relaxed position, enjoying the attention of and music played by surrounding cherubs. Her garment is delicately decorated with small flowers. The central figure on the second vase is playing the mandolin looking up at the heavens.
The dream-like scenery depicted on both vases is complete with further scenes to the reverse portraying a putto, one staring at the viewer and the other looking into the distance. Both figures are painted in front of a waterfall scenery.
Both vases are signed ‘F. Bellanger’, to the bottom right on the first vase and to the bottom left on the second.
Finely painted, these majestic Sèvres-style porcelain and ormolu vases are a stunning addition to the appropriate interior space.
