The chairs in this set of ten dining chairs, each crafted from mahogany and satinwood, feature oval openwork backs with ormolu detailing and central ebony fan-shape marquetry. Each chair is supported by four square tapering legs with foliate sabots, and features a bowed seat covered in yellow velvet upholstery.
The chairs were crafted by distinguished French furniture manufacturer Mercier Frères, established in 1828 by Claude Mercier. It was recognised as one of the leading arisian firms of the 19th century, participating in most of the major International Exhibitions of the fin-de-siècle.
