Description

This set is comprised of three white-ground Sèvres porcelain plates. At the centre of each plate, held within an elaborate flower-laden cartouche, is the star and crescent symbol. Each plate is edged with a parcel gilt red ground band, upon which is painted a geometrical sequence of open white petal flowers. Three gilt cartouches adorn this red ground border, each of which is inset with beautifully painted floral bouquets. The plates, which are excellent examples of the Orientalist taste in late 19th Century French decorative art, once belonged to the family of HRH Princess Ekrem, a descendent of Sultan Abdul Hamid of Kedah.
