Featuring exquisite floral Rococo-style scrolling acanthus patterns to the rim, and beautiful painted patterns of fruit and flowers to the base, this exceptionally fine piece is a Sèvres porcelain centrepiece, made by the Manufacture Nationale in 1861.
The exceptional quality of the decoration to the outside is matched if not surpassed by the beautiful scene adorning the interior. In a large circular landscape scene, set against a mountainous backdrop, swams wade in a small stream that stretches out in the distance, and figures wander in a beautiful woodland setting. This idyllic, romantic view is surrounded by a geometric frieze, and further floral elements line the inside walls of the piece.
The exterior is lined with gilding, contrasting with the dark black ground, that elevates and constrasts with the delightful painted motifs. An exquisite work of Sèvres porcelain, this beautiful piece is an unmissable addition to the appropriate interior space.
Stamped to the base, 'S. 61,' for the manufacturer and date.
