Description

This set of twelve Sèvres porcelain plates, originating from the 19th century was graced with the masterful artistry of the renowned painter 'Thuillier.' Each plate is a testament to the timeless beauty and exquisite craftsmanship that Sèvres porcelain is celebrated for.

These plates are adorned in their central panel with captivating painted pastoral scenes. Each plate depicts a unique courtship scene between the same enamoured pair, capturing the romantic essence of the couples against idyllic settings. The delicate brushstrokes and meticulous attention to detail bring the scenes to life, evoking a sense of enchantment and elegance.

Soft and masterfully nuanced shades convey background landscapes without overpowering the plates with excessive decoration. The colour palette of the paintings is coherent with their themes, consisting of mostly pale blues and light greens, contributing to the soft, alluring atmosphere that the pastoral scenes convey.

The front of each plate is encircled by a cobalt blue rim, adorned with intricate gilt designs of anthemion motifs amidst scrolling patterns. The rich blue hue, coupled with the radiant gilding, creates a captivating contrast against the pristine white porcelain background, adding a touch of opulence and sophistication to the overall composition. The border is further adorned by an outer rim displaying and acanthus leaf band frieze pattern, and an inner edge displaying a bead-and-real frieze pattern, both in gilt.

Turning the plates over, the reverse reveals various printed marks, including the iconic 'Sèvres' mark and the notable 'Chateau Des Tuileries' mark. These marks authenticate the plates as genuine Sèvres porcelain and pay homage to their history, enhancing their value as collectible pieces of art.

The plates are set within a later purple velvet-lined fitted case.

These plates stand as remarkable examples of the mastery achieved by Sèvres artisans, capturing the essence of French artistry and luxury. Their timeless beauty and exceptional craftsmanship make them a captivating addition to any fine porcelain collection or a focal point of a refined table setting. The uniqueness of each plate makes the set a truly special ensemble while the running theme ties it together, making for a enchanting choice to be use in a luncheon or dinner setting.

With their charming pastoral scenes, intricate gilt detailing, and prestigious markings, these Sèvres porcelain plates offer a glimpse into a bygone era of romance and artistic excellence.
