Crafted in Italy in the late nineteenth, possibly early twentieth century, these superb miniatures form a group of three, framed, set of intaglio molds, demonstrating great artistic skill and high quality craftsmanship.
Within each gilt surround, the intaglio molds depict scenes, mainly busts, of Classical images and figures. Several of them feature hand-painted inventory numbers, and the collection is mounted on a peach silk background, mounted in a later composite frame. Of exquisite detail and precision, they show a variety of Roman emperors, generals, gods and goddesses, and minutely carved images of Classical mythology, making a rare and precious set for the collector with a passion for Italian craftsmanship and the Classical world.
