Depicting a charming pair of parrots, the sculptures are of a very impressive size and showcase the superb skills of 20th century makers.
All parts of the sculptures are wonderfully cast from bronze, with fine details such as the birds’ beaks or feather textures clearly recognisable. Both birds are vibrantly painted in shades of bright blue, yellow, red, and white – all colours one would expect to see on a parrot.
The first parrot is standing on a shorter branch with its tail up and face down, while the second is proudly sitting upright on a taller branch. The various positions and heights of the sculptures create an interesting and exciting composition. The branches are rendered in a deep green shade which acts as a superb backdrop for the more vivid shades of the feathers.
This pair of painted bronze sculptures would be a cheerful and eye-catching addition to indoor and outdoor spaces.
A similar pair of painted bronze parrots sold at Christie’s, London in 2021 for £11,250.
