Description

The veined marble top of the commode sits above three front drawers and two larger drawers below. The commode has curved sides and is richly decorated with geometric designs on the wood and a large central marquetry front which depicts vases, baskets, flowers, fruit, and leaves. The body of the commode has been mounted throughout with ormolu handles and decorations.

The commode takes after an original design by the famed 18th Century French ébéniste Jean-Henri Riesener, furniture maker to King Louis XVI and his Queen Marie Antoinette, which is currently in the Château de Fontainebleau, in France.
